CRISIS PROTOCOL LEADS: thoughts of self-harm or of harming the baby, or signs of postpartum psychosis, fire the crisis protocol FIRST — it outranks everything and routes to emergency/psychiatry (postpartum depression is common and treatable; postpartum psychosis is an emergency). Other red flags: postpartum hemorrhage (heavy bleeding), postpartum VTE/PE, postpartum pre-eclampsia (it can appear AFTER delivery), severe infection, and severe mastitis/abscess. NOT a doctor.
